PROTEST (Rhino Fest)
Curious Theatre Branch
In 2017, my friend passed away while walking barefoot across America to protest climate change. Here are two excerpts from my friend’s last blog post: “If you see me at a gas station I’m probably the one sipping on a jar of salsa…” “We are honestly going to soon be living in the greatest mass extinction humanity has ever experienced.” protest is a theatrical exploration and extension of the project of walking across America for climate change; protest is about the politics of futility, the futility of protest, and persisting and carrying on in the face of futility. protest is interested in the lived experience of protest – of having a body, of eating salsa and beans from gas stations, of eating too many bananas, of having to respond to online trolls who dismiss the idea of walking across America for climate change as an exercise in pointless narcissism. protest wants to dwell in the body – to create a space for one’s feelings of white guilt, tired feet, cynicism, and hope. Presented by Shuga Pie Supreme.
